PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds have taken the world by storm this last year, even in China. The gaming branch office of the China Audio And Video And Numeral Publishing Association made a statement recently about the game. The statement remarked on the level of violence present in battle royale style games.
The statement compared the newly popular game mode to that of ancient Roman arenas. The government believes this style of game not only goes against the Republic of China's moral principles but also negatively impacts the mental and physical health of teenagers. They state that it will be much more difficult to approve this kind of game for launch in China, and they discourage studios from developing any more of them.
There are rumors of a new large-scale game company CEOs are having discussions with the China Audio And Video And Numeral Publishing Association about making exceptions for their studios, but no solid information has been confirmed. It is currently unclear how this will affect already existing games such as PlayerUnknown's Battleground. It is possible they will get banned entirely. China's fans are a very large part of the player base, and this news will no doubt hurt the daily player statistics. With PUBG looking to make more profit from their microtransactions, fewer players mean less money.
