Total War: Warhammer 3 was announced last week, and with it came a spiffy trailer promising armies of demons, bear-riding warriors of Kislev (which is basically Warhammer Poland + Russia), and even the return of the long-neglected region of Cathay (which is Warhammer... Asia. Just all of Asia). The trailer looked pretty dope, and promises some exciting new campaigns, but as far as the game itself goes, there's actually very little we know right now.
...but that hasn't stopped Total War: Warhammer 3 from becoming the fastest-selling game Creative Assembly has ever put out, in spite of the fact you can only pre-order it right now.
While initial sales everywhere were pretty strong -- even topping Steam's best-selling chart the week it first dropped -- what pushed it over the edge to be Creative Assemby's fastest-selling game was actually China, where it stayed on top of the best-selling charts for a much longer stretch of time.
As far as I'm aware, there's no particular history between Chinese audiences and Creative Assembly or Warhammer: however, two years ago Creative Assembly did release Total War: Three Kingdoms, which was set in historical China, which probably got a lot of people in China playing and, in the process, discovering their fondness for the Total War franchise. The fact that Warhammer 3 is going to have a largely Chinese-inspired faction has probably only helped raise hype.
There are a lot of reasons to be excited for Total War: Warhammer 3, from adding new factions, to the release of the "ultra-map" that will be unlocked for owners of the two previous games, to some often-requested changes to the gameplay itself, such as making siege battles less awful and possibly making co-op more engaging.
But more than anything, it's just more Total War: Warhammer. And that's pretty much what every fan wants, old and new alike.
