As games have matured, so has the audience it caters to. Most children that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s are quite fond of video games. As a matter of fact, most gamers are in their 30’s and have children. Yet the classic stereotype still makes us out to be introverted, social outcasts, that can’t behave properly in public.
According to a Baylor Lariat post, a writer brought up some very valid points about gamers being anti-social. She states how online games, by their very nature are social experiences. She simply puts “Games nowadays connect you with people all over the world and provide you with multiple ways to communicate and interact.”
There have been many papers published on the subject, and hopefully the trend continues to help diminish the negativity associated with gamers. Hopefully Katdie Norton is correct when she says “If we can start weaning people from using this one stereotype, maybe one day it will spread to our sad overabundance of other inaccurate and more painful stereotypes.”
