C418 is no longer the only musician to make music for Minecraft. A new contributor is coming to the hit sandbox game, and it's none other than Lena Raine, the composer for the indie platformer, Celeste.

Developer Mojang recently released a "snapshot" update (their word for opt-in beta versions of future updates) for the PC Java edition of Minecraft, along with patch notes describing the changes. One of those changes includes three new musical tracks, each dedicated to one of the new biomes being introduced to the Nether.

The tracks are composed by Lena Raine, who has worked on such projects as Guild Wars 2, The Steven Universe Movie, Deltarune, and most famously, Celeste. Now she has her own take on the Minecraft sound.

"One of the primary instruments in Minecraft is the piano, and so one of my challenges to myself was to see how far I could push the sound of the piano until it resembled other things entirely again, that alchemical process," Raine explained. "I wanted each piece to feel like a progression of emotions, or a journey from place to place within this other world. There's a degree of beauty to the Nether, but it is also terrifying in both its details and scale."

Raine contributed three tracks to the game.
  • Rubedo will be played in the Nether Wastes
  • Chrysopoeia will be played in Crimson Forests
  • So Below will be played in Soulsand Valleys and in Basalt Deltas
Previously, all Minecraft music was composed by Daniel Rosenfeld, better known online as C418. This hardly means he's thrown in the towel, though. Rosenfeld has confirmed on Twitter that he's still working on a third "album" of tracks for the game, marveling at it's projected size. Since then, new tracks by the artist have been added to Minecraft as game updates continue to roll out.

All of this will be part of The Nether Update, Mojang's next update to Minecraft. With a focus on the hellish landscape only accessible through dark portals, it will introduce new biomes, creatures, materials, dangers, and rewards. There isn't an official release date for the update, but we grow closer every day. For more information about Lena Raine, visit her website.
