CD Projekt Red Wants Xbox One/PS4 Cross Play

Earlier, Xbox One creators and all-around big deals Microsoft announced that they were ready and willing to sponsor cross-platform play, so gamers on the Xbox One and PS4 could play together on the same server regardless of their console of choice. By putting together the infrastructure, talking with developers, Microsoft made one thing perfectly clear: they were ready for this to happen, and all they needed was Sony's say-so.

Either this was an extremely generous move on Microsoft's part, or ridiculously clever. After all, if both parties aren't interested in cross-play, by being the one to propose it, Microsoft is putting Sony on the spot and making them look like the bad guys, since they're the ones holding back on everyone. Well, regardless of their intention, Rocket League has already expressed an interest in unified cross play, and now you can add one more developer to that list: crowd favorite and Batman of the gaming world, CD Projekt Red, who have revealed that they would be thrilled if their standalone Witcher-themed card game, Gwent, could be played by any player on any console.

Talking to IGN, Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwiński had this to say:

"We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way. Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent's cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it. We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony."

So that's one more voice in favor of absolute console unity. Here's hoping Sony gets off its but and actually does something--at the very least, admit it doesn't want to do cross-play because exclusivity. If it's going to be the bad guy, it'd be nice if they could at least SAY so.
