CD Projekt Red Responds to Fans' Reactions to TW3 Official Modkit

Fans aren't happy... and for good reason.

Well, the devs deliverith, and the fans receiveth... negatively.

Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red released the official modding support tools for The Witcher 3. Fans who waited months for this kit clamored in joy and downloaded the Modkit the instance it released on Friday. Though the modkit allowed players to modify the game in a lot of ways, the kit also didn't allow enough customization, especially in comparison to "REDkit," a more extensive mod utility used in The Witcher 2.

Fans weren't exactly happy in the end.

Unlike other instances in the gaming industry, fans pined for more merely due to a statement over a year ago. Back in January 2014, CEO of Projekt Red Marcin Iwinski stated in an interview that the studio was going to release REDkit--the extensive modkit--sometime after the release of Witcher 3.

However, the modding tools received this week aren't exactly an editor, but instead more complex, suitable for experienced modders. The software's purpose, in particular, is to make the creation of mods easier. It's unfortunate for those fairly new to modding, but the more important matter is that the developers either haven't been clear on the delivery, or have scrapped the original idea entirely and forgot to mention it to fans.

Thus, people are understandably unhappy, voicing their concerns over a variety of platforms, which have been responded to by community manager Marcin Momot. One fan in particular asked if there was an ETA on a full-featured version of the TW3 REDkit, to which Momot replied:

"This is the mod support for the Wild Hunt. At this moment we are not planning to release anything else."

The same response applied to future concerns expressed. Do you believe CD Projekt Red will cave under the pressure of upset fans and release a full-featured version? Or will their foot stand firm?

Only time will tell.
