Monster Hunter has always been a popular series, but it hasn’t really taken off until Monster Hunter World, a version of the game seemingly designed to be more new-user friendly and less annoying to play, making everything from hunting, gathering, and crafting a bit more streamlined, while still delivering on epic monster showdowns. It’s been a big success, and with a PC launch right around the corner, a lot of sad Nintendo fans are wondering if perhaps they’ll get a chance to join their friends in the hunt anytime soon.
Well, in the past, Capcom had said they would think about it, although the concept seemed “unlikely.” And unfortunately, in the months since then, their position has only changed for the worse. In a recent shareholders' meeting, Capcom made it clear that the idea of bringing Monster Hunter World to the Switch was unrealistic, as the game was too powerful and too big to fit comfortably on Nintendo’s pint-sized console. There are just too many moving parts, and it’s understandable to find the task of importing all that to Nintendo a bit overwhelming.
That said, Capcom isn’t giving up on the Switch. Just because Monster Hunter Worlds isn’t going to release there doesn’t mean future Monster Hunter games won’t. In fact, they even said they’d like to make a full game specifically for the Switch at some point. We’re already kind of seeing that with Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, a port of the 3DS game that’s heading to the Switch soon, and although that game lacks the quality-of-life improvements that has made Monster Hunter Worlds so popular… it’s a start, right?
Well, maybe. We have yet to see if Capcom is going to take the feedback from Monster Hunter World and bring it to the other games in the series, or if World is just a one-off thing. But I don’t think it takes a marketing genius to see which of those options would sell better.
