Deep Down was certainly one of the first games to make deep impressions when shown during Sony's Playstation 4 world reveal last year. Making use of their new Panta Rhei graphics engine, it was a gorgeous look at what the next gen of games were going to look like.
Then they later revealed the game was free to play and showed gameplay that was nowhere as pretty as that first trailer and all the hype died. Even so, it was pretty surprising that the game was not even mentioned during Sony's E3 conference this year, afterall it is PS4 exclusive and Sony even specifically had a spot in the conference for free to play games.
While no official reason has been given yet... comments made on social media related to the game have indicated that Capcom is still unsure if the game will be released outside of Japan. That seems a pretty odd choice considering there's clearly English voice acting in the game. I would also think that Capcom would like to make back some of the money spent on the R&D that went into making this game engine. This wouldn't be the first time they've done things like this... with entries in popular series like Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter never coming stateside as well.
Unless there is some kind of surprise announcement later today or tomorrow, expect to learn more about the game at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show in September. The game is expected to launch on Japanese PS4s later this year.
