Resident Evil is a game series about zombies and the evil people responsible for them, in some capacity or another. If there’s anything else happening there, and I’m certain there is, it’s lost on a simple-minded boy like me. At this point, the name Resident Evil is more recognizable and summons more goodwill than any of their games at this point, and it’s gotten to the point where Capcom recognizes it’s kind of hit a dead end and has just gone back to the start of the franchise to try again. Milk that nostalgia tit as long as they can.
And since the last HD Remake worked so well (I think?) Capcom is at it again--except instead of being a game, it’s another movie. But not the live-action American movies, which are… actually pretty good, this is going to be a complete GCI movie that takes the plot back to its roots. Again.
This comes to us from Inside, which came to me from Kotaku, which cites filmmaker Takashi Shimizu, the creator of Ju-on as the executive producer, Takanori Tsujimoto (who's done nothing I've ever heard of) as director, and Makoto Fukami, one of the writers for Psycho-Pass, is writing the script. So there’s some good talent on the project, but good enough to breathe life in this ironically dead series?
We’ll have to see late 2017, when the movie is slated for an international launch.
