Street Fighter V will be coming soon--March 2016, to be precise. Despite being the follow-up of the wildly successful Street Fighter IV, Capcom will be doing things very different in this installment: rather than release updated versions of the same game every few years, Street Fighter V will come with all new content produced through the years, which can either be purchased directly or, if you’re patient, earned in-game through an in-game currency. Like a Pay-to-Play model, except a fighting game instead of an MMO.
Well, just because they’re doing some things differently doesn’t mean that they won’t do others by the book: namely, pre-order incentives. In this case, it seems to be alternate character oufits, such as Sexy Ryu, which was revealed the other day.
And today, we got Sexy Cammy, who replaced her green leotard and tied-up hair for something a little more exciting.
But while these outfits are really freakin’ cool, that’s not really the news here. If you could pull your eyes away from Cammy’s chest and leg area and give a gander to her face, do you notice something different?
She’s cute. Or, more precisely, she looks cuter than the last look of Cammy we got from the game, where she appeared more… intense. That’d be in the banner image above—notice the narrower eyes and how decidedly un-cuddly this trained killer appears.
So why the change? According to Kotaku, it apparently came in response from Japanese fans who were unhappy with her ‘updated’ appearance, saying she looked like an attempt to appeal to westerners and she lost a lot of her cuteness—which was apparently enough for some people to say they wouldn’t buy the game.
Okay then. Good news, the change is well-received and fans are saying they’ll support the franchise again. The bad news: those kind of people exist. I get that this kind of thing is important to some people, but ideally you should be buying Street Fighter for the gameplay, not how cute the characters look in the five seconds you'll get to enjoy it before the action makes it hard to notice or care how wide their eyes are.
What a world we live in.
