Capcom Cancels All Remote Work After Data Breach

This isn't a great time in the world for that.

In response to a massive data breach in December 2020, Capcom is revoking all of their remote employment system, requiring all employees to now work on-site.

According to a report by Business Journal (translated by Kotaku), Capcom is requiring all remote employees to return to the workplace. The decision is reportedly in response to a data leak that happened last December, which revealed not only a great level of detail about upcoming Capcom titles, but the personal information of numerous Capcom employees.

While normally an understandable decision, many are unsure about how this will be handled in relation to the (unfortunately) ongoing COVID pandemic. Capcom has since issued a statement to Kotaku, expanding on this.

Capcom strives to provide a workplace environment with the utmost consideration given to the health and safety of employees.
. . .
We have implemented both staggered work hours and telecommuting to the greatest extent possible, while carrying out best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing at the office, checking employees' temperatures upon entry to the office and providing masks to all employees.

The initial report also claimed that Capcom would not allow unionization, which they promptly denied. Though to speak frankly, no company with a brain would openly admit to it, if they were.

This feels like an equally messy answer to an already messy situation. Our sympathies go out to all of the Capcom employees who have to deal with all this.
