Callie and Marie become Amiibos

Uh, uh... squid-pun!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any controversies or fiasco’s surrounding Nintendo’s plastic playful peripherals, the Amiibo. And to be totally honest, I have no idea if that’s because Nintendo has finally solved its back-end problem and people have all the Amiibos they could possibly want, or if people have simply stopped caring about the toys/system that there’s simply no more competition.

Regardless. Discounting the villager Amiibo, which was always sort of like the holy grail for whatever reason, the most popular Amiibo to date have been the Inkling Amiibos from Splatoon, as they didn’t offer mere cosmetic changes—they gave their owners single-player challenge maps, and weapons you could use in the multiplayer as well. Pretty damn functional. Despite this, there was a shortage, and many Splatoon fans have been left wanting for those mysterious prizes.

Well, the wanting will soon be over: now that Splatoon has settled into what could be called its “final state”, with Nintendo having ceased development on all the free DLC content, Nintendo has decided to release more Amiibos for the title. This includes the three original Amiibos from last year (re-painted for good measure), as well as two new ones: the squidsational squid sisters, Callie and Marie.

Now, getting the three original Amiibos will net you the same old treasures the original buyers got, but if you snag Callie and Marie, which are both sold in a single pack, you get access to music videos of them singing and dancing. Which is an… unusual bonus, to say the least, but the two characters are popular enough that people will probably love it.

Regardless. You can buy the individual, repainted inklings for 13 bucks each, or in a 3-pack that’ll set you back 35 bucks. The squid sisters, on the other hand, will cost 25 bucks for the pair of em’. That’s a lot for a song and dance, but the video sure seems to make them sound like high-quality figures.

Oh, right. There’s a video. That’s a good note to end things on, right?
