Try to act surprised by this: a new battle royale shooter game is hitting the market today, featuring one of the biggest names in gaming. Activision has announced Call of Duty: Warzone, a free to play battle royale game.

This may not come as "news" to some of you. The existence of the game has been around for the last month, with an 11-minute gameplay video leaking just yesterday. But now it's not the only official, but it'll be available in the next 24 hours.

Activision released both a new trailer for the game, but a long list of features to expect. We've broken all the information down into something more digestible for you.

Here's What We Know

Call of Duty: Warzone is a free to play battle royale game based on the Modern Warfare remake engine. In it, the player takes the role of a Tier 1 Operator. Up to 150 players will airdrop onto the world of Verdansk to compete in being the only one left alive.

At launch, the game will feature two game modes: Battle Royale and Plunder.

In Battle Royale, players participate in a three-man group of traditional battle royale rules: be the last alive. To keep things tense, a noxious gas cloud is slowly closing in, shrinking the size of the playable map.

In Plunder, the goal is not one of survival but one of hard cash. Players must travel across the map, looting nearby locations for money, killing opponents to steal their cash, and completing in-match contracts for a financial bonus.

Call of Duty: Warzone will also feature vehicles as a part of both game modes. We don't just mean cars, either. Here are all confirmed vehicles that can be found around the game map. But be careful; if their health hits zero, the vehicle will explode.
  • ATV a two-seater, provides minimal protection, good at offroading, fast.
  • Tactical Rover four-seater, provides minimal protection, solidly fast, solid at off-roading.
  • SUV four-seater, provides good protection, medium speed, not ideal for off-roading.
  • Cargo Truck holds the squad plus equipment, excellent protection, not for off-roading, slowest.
  • Helicopter four-seater, decent coverage, flies.
Death doesn't exactly mean a loss in this game. Battle Royale features The Gulag. Upon your first elimination, you'll be taken prisoner. In the Gulag, you will see other prisoners fighting to the death in a series of 1v1 matches, waiting for your own turn. The winner of these duels will be awarded with redeployment. Players can also earn enough cash to redeploy a teammate, but we will get into that in a moment.

In the Plunder section, we mentioned Contracts. These are optional bonus tasks that the player can complete in both Plunder and Battle Royale. With a limit of only one active at a time, completing these Contracts will award the team in-match money and loot items. Contacts can rand from finding supply boxes to securing specific locations.

Since cash isn't the focus in Battle Royale mode, players can redeem their earned income at Buy Stations. there are locations throughout the map where players can spend their cash in exchange for various goods like Killstreaks, Revive Tokens to bring back a teammate, Self-revive kits, and so on. You can find these stations in Plunder as well. But given the goal of hoarding cash, this may be a less appealing option.

If you own a copy of Modern Warfare, then all of your operator progress will coordinate seamlessly with Warzone. "All content already earned including Battle Pass items, Operators, weapons and customization items will carry over to Warzone, and all progression earned in Warzone will counts toward overall Modern Warfare progression. "

How to Download/Play Call of Duty: Warzone

Warzone is a free to play title available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (Battle.net). If you own a copy of the Modern Warfare remake, you can download the game as early as 8 AM PDT, March 10. If you do not own the game, you have to wait until 12 PM PDT. To find the game, Activision simply suggests searching "Warzone" on your relevant platform. If it's before those listed times, don't expect to find the game.

If you already own Modern Warfare and have it installed, then the download for Warzone will be 18 to 22 GB in size. If you don't own the game, it'll be 83 to 101 GB in size. Anticipate waiting on the download before playing. Maybe go make a nice lunch in the meantime.

I'll be playing it, myself. I hope to see you all there.
