No matter what you think of the militaristic first-person shooter, no one can deny that Call of Duty remains one of the biggest video game franchises of all time. This idea is cemented even further with the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which has already become the best selling game of 2019.

According to an investor report by publisher Activision, the recent remake of the acclaimed Call of Duty game has grossed over $600 million in the first three days of its release, a new video game record. It sets six new records actually.
  • Top-Selling New Premium Game Release of 2019
  • Biggest Selling Digital Opening in Activision History
  • Set PS4 Record with Highest Digital Sales in First Three Days
  • Sold More Units in First Three Days Than Any Other Call of Duty Three Day Opening In This Console Generation
  • Biggest Call of Duty PC Launch Ever
Gaming market analyst Daniel Ahmad compares these records to the other best selling games of recent years.

Outside the Call of Duty franchise, the only titles to gross over $600 million in 3 days have been Red Dead Redemption 2 ($725m in 3 days) and Grand Theft Auto V ($1 billion in 3 days).

This is a fantastic example of how what trends in video game communities might not be representative of the consumer market as a whole. Few forums online have spoken much about Modern Warfare. And many that have were in focus of either the game's questionable position on war crimes or the introduction of microtransactions.

But numbers don't lie. The 2019 remake of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is already a success. We'll likely see more record-breaking numbers as the game ages.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
