Bye Bye Playstation Network as Downtime Continues
Is the PSN coming to a swift and harsh end? Most of you might have heard by now (especially those with PSN accounts) that the Sony Playstation Network was compromised about a week or so ago and is about to enter into it's 8th day of downtime. This has obviously cost Sony a fair chunk of change and could cost them a heck of a lot more due to its 77 million users' account information being hacked and exposed.
Forbes has recently stated that the cost of the breach could top $24 billion dollars! They state "cost of a data breach involving a malicious or criminal act was on average of $318 per account" which puts it in the range of the aforementioned figure. They also stated that it "takes into account a wide range of business costs, including expense outlays for detection, escalation, notification, and after the fact (ex-post) response. [Ponemon] also analyze[s] the economic impact of lost or diminished customer trust and confidence, measured by customer churn or turnover rates."
So will most PSN users leave in droves after this unprecedented breach?
I'm sure there will be some firings over this.
