The fans noticed. They got mad. And Bungie has been trying, badly, to fix things before they release the first expansion, Curse of Osiris. And in a blog post released yesterday, which took the place of a stream that was supposed to brag about some of the new content in the game, Bungie redoubled its commitment to transparency and spoke at length about all the changes that were coming to the game in the coming months.
Going forward, Destiny 2’s post-launch game systems, features, and updates are being designed specifically to focus on and support players who want Destiny to be their hobby – the game they return to, and a game where friendships are made. We want Destiny to be a game that fits into your life, providing you with reasons to log in and play with your friends, clans, and families. We want Destiny to be a world you want to be a part of.
We know it’s frustrating when there isn’t enough of a dialog with the development team. You have our commitment that we’re going to do a better job going forward.
So, what changes are coming? It’d be better to read the blog post yourself to get all the details, but a quick TL;DR: they’re adding masterwork weapons, which are basically upgraded Legendary weapons with “stat trackers, random, re-rollable stat bonuses, unique item tooltips, and item details screens." Sliders are still consumable, but new armor ornaments are permanent, and add a new layer of customization to your character. There’s a new and improved interface on the way, easier ways to select emotes, the Three of Coins is coming back, and of course, they’re adjusting how you earn EXP, again.
Good enough to sate players? Probably not, this is just an advertisement of a different color. But for some, I suppose it’s good enough. Hope it keeps 'em happy until Bungie screws the pooch again.
