Generally, working in gaming journalism, you don’t get the opportunity to work on hard human interest stories, otherwise known as “soft news”. But occasionally the community or a company will do something heartwarming or encouraging and I get the chance to report on that for a nice chance of pace. And in this case, it seems like Bungie, the studio responsible for Destiny, has gone ahead and done something genuinely kind the other day.
So, over on Reddit, a woman on Brittany Levasseur posted a rather long-winded but charming post about how her husband, who’d had seven brain surgeries over the past year, was using Destiny (as advised by a doctor) as an unorthodox but effective form of mental therapy.
Naturally, the response from Reddit was fantastic and encouraging, but what was more amazing was the response from Bungie themselves: upon hearing the news, they sent Mr. Levasseur a little gift: an exotic scout rifle called “The Fate of All Fools”, which, if you play Destiny, you know isn’t out yet—it’s a rifle from the “Trails of the Oasis” add-on. Pretty impressive, eh? Here it is in inventory.
This might not have much consequence in the gaming world at large, but it’s certainly enough to tickle the heartstrings. Brittany reports he’s besides himself with joy and hasn’t been able to stop playing since.
Hooray for generosity!
