So Bungie, the mighty makers of Halo have finally revealed their next massive sci-fi epic: Destiny.

Described as a "shared-world shooter," the game is being heralded as a mashup of traditional first-person shooters and MMORPGs into one massive, kickass package. The future-set story will follow warriors tasked with protecting the last safe city on Earth from a mysterious entity, after humanity has moved on to other planets in the solar system. Since this is meant as an open-world game, Polygon reports that players will actually be able to explore entire planets in the Destiny universe.

The game is currently in development for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 although one would wonder why they would be making this game for those consoles when the next gens are right around the corner?
