PC gaming is best known for two things: being able to churn out the best-looking, most intense games on the market, when running on machines able to match the herculean demands of the games they play, and customization through settings and mods to allow you to cater your gaming experience to your needs… be it with improving graphics to turning every deathclaw into Randy Savage for whatever reason. Presumably it’s a fetish or something, because the humor gets old just looking at the screen caps.
Well, it was with the hope of capturing the magic of PC gaming within the comforts and costs of console gaming that Valve, the company formerly known for actually making their own damn games rather than selling other people’s, first announced and launched the steam machine, a special console that would run the steam OS and function like a sort of PC dedicated to gaming. Of course, it had restrictions, like any console might, but that doesn’t mean Valve is going to be satisfied with its work, no sir.
Indeed, while the Steam Machines themselves might be fairly straightforward, the Steam machine controller is a bit more… flexible. Much in the same way they encouraged people to build their own Steam machines, you can now build and modify the enigmatic Steam Machine controller to suit your needs or liking.
All you have to do is download this baby, which outlines all the component and measurements, and get to building it.
Now, this is free to use, and you could build a million and a half unique controllers if you like, but you can only sell them for yourself with Valve’s permission, so ask nicely before you set up a stall at your local flea market.
Other than that, it’s just a cool 'lil move for tech fans out there who might want to customize their Steam Machine experience even further.
