Bubsy Returns in Bubsy: Paws on Fire, Due Early 2019

Most days, I can wake up and not think about the abrasive history of Bubsy the bobcat and his various games. Unfortunately, today is not one of those days. Bubsy: Paws on Fire is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire is the next in the line of Bubsy games. Developed by Choice Provisions, the team behind the Bit.Trip series, the game will expand upon the previous one. It's expected to have four playable characters, 100+ levels, a combo system, and cosmetic options. It'll release sometime early 2019.



Originally released in 1993, Bubsy was the titular protagonist of a line of platformer games. They were best known for their puns, jokes, and references to popular culture. The franchise had seen a resurgence last year with a modern adaption, titled Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. This game had a mixed reception, citing unstimulating gameplay and repetitive and uninteresting dialogue.

The game is described as an Auto Runner on the official website, which aligns with the developer's Bit.Trip background. But they also state that "there's a lot more to it than that."

"After some productive meetings and even more productive face scratches we agreed to work with Bubsy on creating an auto-runner worthy of his stature. And when that was done we scrapped it and made a good game instead."

Bubsy: Paws on Fire qill release sometime during the first quarter of 2019.
