Bruce Campbell, the actor best known for playing Ash in the Evil Dead, is teasing Mortal Kombat fans.

For a while now, there have been rumors that Ash from the Evil Dead will be one of the DLC fighters for Mortal Kombat 11. This information was discovered in the game files by some data miners.

About a month ago, Bruce Campbell himself stated on Twitter that this was false. He had posted an image that showed him defeating an internet rumor in a classic Mortal Kombat setting. At the bottom of the image, it said the following.

According to Bruce Campbell himself, Evil Dead's Ash will not be appearing in Mortal Kombat 11

This satisfied many fans, believing that to be a sufficient rumor squash. Others didn't buy it, thinking that he was either lying or that he wasn't involved in the DLC's production. The latter would be unfortunate since Campbell's iconic voice would be missing from the character.

Then there was the recent gameplay trailer. Mortal Kombat showed off how Shang Tsung, a confirmed DLC fighter, will work in-game. At the end, it teases the final two unannounced fighters with the sound of a chainsaw. You know, like the one on Ash's arm?

And now Campbell is back again, running the rumor mill. He's recently retweeted the game trailer's reveal tweet, commenting how it looks like an interesting game and he might play it.

Hey Campbell, why do you play with our hearts like this?

Campbell is a bit of an internet jokester. Evidence of this is clear on this Twitter, where we see things like Game of Thrones jokes and Sharknado auditions. The man has a sense of humor. We figure that one of two things are happening.
  • Ash is NOT in MK11, and Campbell is poking fun at everything thinking he is by taunting them.
  • Ash IS in MK11, and Campbell is being smarmy by specifically saying it's not Evil Dead's Ash. Instead, it'll be a different film, such as Army of Darkness's Ash.
The latter idea has more credit to it. The original Evil Dead doesn't feature the chainsaw arm, and the plot of Army of Darkness relates to time travel, a prevalent theme in Mortal Kombat 11.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if the fighter WASN'T Ash at this point. My dream of Doom Guy in Mortal Kombat will have to wait for MK12.
