According to Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 8.48 million copies on Switch and 1.5 million copies on Wii U. This adds up to a total of nearly 10 million copies. Depending on if you include remasters or not, this would make it the best selling Zelda game of all time.
Previously, the status was held by The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which sold a total of 8.85 million between the GameCube and Wii variations. The remaster disclaimer is because if you include the Wii U remaster, this ups the total to around 10.08 million copies. That would push it past Breath of the Wild's current score.
The same can also be said about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The original game sold 7.6 million units, while the 3DS remaster sold about 4 million, totaling at 11.6 million units. So if we do include remasters, then this would be the current record holder.
Granted, Breath of the Wild has only been out for around a year. We can expect its sales number to gradually build as time passes. Should we see a 16k mega HD remaster some time in 2035, then perhaps Breath of the Wild will take the lead in this classification as well.
