Lovecraftian-style horror will always appeal to me, personally. Something about an eldritch horror fracturing your mind sounds so strange and macabre; it's exciting. This is why I'm especially excited for Call of Cthulhu (2018). Now fuel has been thrown on the proverbial fire with previously unseen gameplay footage.
Originally a 1981 RPG, Call of Cthulhu will be a full-on reimagining of the majorly famous title. In fact, this game would go on to win several awards as Best Role Playing Game up until the early 2000s. The reimagining is now being developed by Cyanide, using the Unreal Engine 4 to build it as a semi-open world RPG with elements of stealth and psychological horror.
In Call of Cthulhu, the player controls Edward Pierce, a private investigator inspecting a small town near Boston, Massachusetts, known as Darkwater Island. He originally arrived there to solve a murder but has instead discovered the horrors that are coming with the revival of the Great Old One, Cthulhu.
We've been aching for more information about the game as it nears its release date. So far only the year of release has been specified (2018). Call of Cthulhu is second on our list of 5 Games to Look Forward to in 2018. More details about the game will be announced as they become known.
