Borderlands 3 being announced is certainly an exciting way to start your Friday, but if you thought that was the only Borderlands-related news that Gearbox has on offer, then you’re clearly underestimating them: on top of the big reveal of the latest game in the series, they also revealed that they’ll be re-visiting the games of Borderlands past with a brand-new remaster of the first game, called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition as well as a free visual update for Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel.

First, the remaster:

Discover the co-op shooter-looter that started it all! With new weapons, visual upgrades, character heads, gold chests and keys, plus all 4 add-on packs, you can enjoy all of the content from one of the Most Acclaimed Games of its era, now in one sweet and deliciously modern package!

The remaster is pretty much exactly what’s written on the tin. It’s a remake of the first game with better graphics and all the bonus content slapped in there. It’s as good an excuse as any to revisit the first game or introduce it to your younger friends who might not have been around when it was first released. Plus, it’s on modern consoles now. That’s swell. Even better is that it'll be out next week, April 3.

At the same time, Gearbox will also be releasing a free update to Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It’s nothing terribly exciting… just a free texture upgrade that will increase the visual fidelity of both titles, so that you can enjoy the games even more… particularly in 4K, which Gearbox says is what these upgrades were really designed for. That said, while consoles will be getting the upgrade as well, they’ll only get it if you have the Handsome Collection. The individual games will only get boosted on PC.

Looks like it really is springtime for Borderlands fans.
