Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Playable E3 Build Was Far from Finished

Well, a lesson learned, perhaps?

Sometimes, it's not a great idea to release a playable build to the public at E3 of all places. Case in point: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It appeared at E3 all right, but people have been complaining about the current state of the game... that it's not fun. According to a PC Gamer writer:

"I played through the 10 minute demo and recognized the very familiar trappings of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night--a similar walking speed and attack animation, the classic Metroidvania map overlay, and the good old backdash--but using them was a disappointingly bland experience."

You can check out the whole preview here.

But the point of this news piece is to mainly talk about the issues of having an unfinished product. Is it a good idea?

Not exactly, and to note that Bloodstained: The Ritual of the Night seems like such a chore in this state is not a good sign. It could bring a lot of skepticism to the audience. Maybe the game won't turn out great. Sure, it's pretty, but what about the quality of the gameplay? That remains up in the air, and having bland gameplay shown off at E3 only creates a distance between the game and the player.

Despite Bloodstained being quite unfinished, there's still hope for it yet. A release date hasn't even been announced, so hopefully there are some lessons learned from showing off the playable build at E3. Feel free to check out the gameplay video below:
