We’ve known for a while now that Bloodborne would be getting some DLC--Sony was very clear they wanted to continue to develop the franchise, and DLC is frankly the best way they have to go about that, what with Dark Souls 3 coming soon. With the Tokyo Game Show beginning, and Sony up to present, Bloodborne fanatics like myself were chomping at the bit, praying to get a taste of that upcoming DLC.
And boy, have we been sated. Introducing… The Old Hunters!
From the PlayStation Blog…
Set in a nightmare world where hunters from the past are trapped forever, explore brand new stages full of dangers, rewards, and deadly beasts to overcome. You’ll find multiple new outfits and weapons to add to your arsenal as well as additional magic to wield and add more variety to your combat strategy.
With new story details, learn the tale of hunters who once made Yharnam their hunting grounds, meet new NPCs, and discover another side of the history and world of Bloodborne. Here’s a brief glimpse of just some of what lies in store for you when The Old Hunters launches on November 24th, including Simon’s Bowblade weapon, and new boss enemy Ludwig.
Now, that looks super-neat, but just look at that trailer again and you’ll notice these new weapons are making Bloodborne a little more ‘Dark Souls’--there are shields that actually work! And even a bow!
That’s not to say it’s completely lost its identity as Bloodborne: check out 1:10. That’s a weapon from the vanilla game specifically designed to increase your "Beast meter," a cool but underwhelming mechanic where you increase your savagery and become closer to a beast than a man. Showing someone using that weapon--then jumping on an enemy like a feral savage--makes me hope they might improve beasthood to something a little closer to its true potential.
Gah, it’s all so exciting!
While extra details will be forthcoming, at least we know this: the DLC will cost 20 bucks and come out November 24th. So that’s 14 days to get Fallout 4 out of your system before we dive back into the city of Yharnam.
It’s a fine night for a hunt indeed!
