Blizzard suffers from DDoS attacks, Recovers

As you do.

Earlier this week, Blizzard started its second wave of bans for players they've caught cheating, hacking, or otherwise manipulating the game for their advantage. These bans are permanent and ruthless, blocking them even if they make new accounts, use a VPN, or even buy the game a second time. And boy--as you can imagine, people are PISSED. From the moment the bans went live, there have been people making angry threats and whiny posts on reddit and the forums demanding Blizzard change their way or face retribution. Blizzard steadfastly refuse, as you could expect, and while the DDoS attack that followed cannot DIRECTLY be attributed to the angry hackers... the timing is pretty convincing, wouldn't you say?

Yes, Overwatch and the Battle.net servers suffered from a series of DDoS attacks, perpetrated by a group called PoodleCorp. Now, the attacks were swift and painless, more or less, knocking Blizzard out for a few hours, maybe, before their own engineers got moving and fixed things up, but still, it happened: and since it SEEMS to be a retribution strike, it raises the question of if we'll be seeing more of these in the immediate future or not.

If the point is to be spiteful, well, congrats to the hackers: that it is. But if you're trying to get yourself un-banned to enjoy a round or two of Lucioball, well, I'm afraid you're plum out of luck, because Blizzard is far too proud to ever back down on something like this. Nor should it: it would be the death toll of a company if hackers found out they could bully it with threats of DDoS attacks.

There's also the fact the hackers were in the wrong to begin with, so... yeah, that's also a reason.
