BlizzCon has come and left. We got the usual and expected updates from their IPs. It was exactly what we were all thinking it would be. And that includes Blizzard's announcement about World of Warcraft Legacy Servers. As in, there was no word about them at all. And thus passes another year where all players are stuck in a post-Cataclysm world.
Unfortunately, there are no existing plans to implement Legacy servers in World of Warcraft. The closest we've gotten are vague words about how Blizzard would like to have them, but it isn't as easy as flipping a switch. We know they met with the minds behind the Nostalrius servers (after Blizzard shut them down, of course). However, they are still selling the story that Legacy servers are something near impossible for them to do. I guess a basement full of devoted fans is more effective than a multi-billion dollar company. Who knew?
I would personally love the opportunity to dive into a Legacy Server. However, my reasons are not nostalgic in the slightest. I don't crave for the good ol' days where being level 40 really meant something. I am actually fully incapable to feel that way about vanilla WoW.
I was in high school when World of Warcraft first came out. I got to see several friends in my clique grow an unhealthy addiction to the phenomenon. I, on the other hand, was not able to convince my parents that a monthly subscription was worth any kind of video game. So I missed out.
Seriously, I don't even know who these guys are!
I finally picked up World of Warcraft years later. The Cataclysm was behind everyone already. I blew past levels and milestones like a hurricane. It only took me 2 months of casual playing to reach the level cap. I had mounts pouring out of my ass, and I never ran out of mana in the dungeons. Speaking of dungeons, I spent all my time standing in the auction house and using the dungeon finder. That was my entire experience. There was no reason for me to see the actual "world" of Warcraft.
I am for Legacy Servers, because I never had the opportunity to actually play World of Warcraft. What I played was "Dungeon Finder Max: Hyper Leveling Edition." And as of now, I have no real, legal recourse to dive into the experience. And I'm sure I'm not the only who missed out.
