Blizzard has released a new animated short about there popular hero shooter, Overwatch, but instead of featuring a new character, it touches back on the classic Dorito goblin, D.Va.
Titled "Shooting Star," we see the Korean gamer-turned-fighter-pilot in the current time, handling life when not on the battlefield. After retiring from eSports, she became the leader of MEKA, a team of mech operatives tasked with defending the Korean city of Busan.
While TV and media beat on about the young hero and the life of glamour she leads, we see that in actuality, she's at the MEKA lookout base, working on repairs to her suit and eating legally distinct Doritos and Mountain Dew brandishing her face. When asked why she can't relax some by her male friend, we catch a flashback of the MEKA team's last mission, where D.Va was the only survivor.
She is given little time to reveal the pressure she feels having to protect the city by herself before a wave of Omnic bots arrives to assault the town. Commence the cool air combat scene, showcasing a number of her in-game powers, including her Ult.
Alongside the animated short, Blizzard announced a new control map based on the town she was protecting, Busan. Players will fight for control over the modern Korean atmosphere, including locations such as the Karaoke bar, the LAN cafe, and the billboard-illuminated streets.
