Blizzard Officially Announces Sombra as a Playable Character

And I can't stop yawning.

It's finally over. After all this time, it's over. The weeks of puzzles. The months of countdown. They were all for absolutely nothing. Because no matter how hard the community tried to solve the puzzles in a timely manner, Blizzard already had plans to reveal every single aspect of Sombra at Blizzcon. I say this, because that's exactly what happened. Blizzard made a lackluster introduction of the character and her kit, putting an unceremonious end to the worthless ARG. If you're still interested in what Sombra brings to the table, check out her kit below.

The kit itself seems fairly interesting, but does bring up several concerns about breaking the game. Mainly, how is Torbjorn supposed to stay relevant in a post-Sombra game? He and his turrets are already seldom picked in competitive modes of Overwatch. Adding in Sombra's invisibility and hacking skills shuts him down even more. When she's invisible, she has increased speed. Add that to her teleportation, and she may very well just be a better version of Tracer herself. Of course, the only way to know for sure is to give her a spin when she comes out on the PTR next Tuesday.

There's another thing about that kit that bugs me. The biggest thing I see is 5 missed chances to make the ARG an actual enjoyable experience. It's no secret that the ARG itself is now notorious for meaningless puzzles with no reward, but it didn't have to be that way. Just in the kit alone, there are 5 rewards that could have been shared with the community. Overwatch players would likely be singing a different tune about the whole thing if each solved puzzle yielded one of these nuggets of info.

Let's hope they learn from this for next time.
