Blizzard Likes the Idea of a Map Editor for Overwatch

Overwatch’s latest hero, a robot spider-thing called Orisa, was released recently, and while fans have already gotten to enjoy her at length thanks to her stint on the public beta, it’s nice having her fully out and in the open. With two champions out and a third presumably on the way, players can’t help but wonder what other new, exciting things will be added to Blizzard’s latest darling.

Well, in a recent post on the official forum, players suggested that maybe Overwatch would benefit from having a Map Editor. After all, it is a very creative and active audience, and the maps loan themselves nicely to that kind of feature, and it would do a lot of good for the long-term health of the game.

And Blizzard actually agreed. Jeff Kaplan, Game Director, had this to say:

“We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.”

I’ve given Blizzard a lot of crap in the past for being stuck up their own butts, so I find this notion of supporting user-made content to be very encouraging. Between tags, skins, and of course maps, Overwatch is a great canvas for players to express themselves and their love for this game, and it’s nice to see Blizzard has plans, however distant they might be, to enable that. Good for you!

In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep making porn. Mountains and mountains of porn.
