I wrote about Bioware and cupcakes earlier, but I’m going to reference that event again because it’s kind of applicable and honestly I just really like writing about cupcakes you have no idea. ;)
Mass Effect 3. Controversial game, it was—not because of the sideboob like the first game, or because of the lack of romantic options with Mordin (thank god for fanfiction on that one), but because of the ending. People got mad, filed complaints, sent cupcakes, that whole deal—because when you love something enough, you want to be a part of it. You want to participate. And in the case of Mass Effect 3, the fans wanted to feel like they had some agency in a story they felt they owned. Well, Bioware might not have given them all jobs as writers, but it has remembered that lesson, of sorts: and over Twitter Bioware producer Michael Gamble has asked fans to fill out a survey to help the team over at Bioware make Mass Effect 4 “The best one yet”
You can check out the survey for yourself here.
As for what the survey asks, pretty normal stuff. First page asks you to list games you play or have played recently, the second page asks you to prioritize gameplay elements (plot, exploration, combat and customization), and to elaborate on your opinion. Following that, just a smattering of questions about your gaming habits and how often you cosplay(?) and tada—you’ve officially contributed to the production of Mass Effect 4. Somehow.
It’s a pretty quick survey and apparently it’ll help the direction of Mass Effect 4, but it’s certainly worth your attention. Considering how vague the questions are, though, you could easily deduce that they’re not very far in production—since it seems they’re trying to figure out what to focus the gameplay on. Not exactly a democracy but it’s better than a lot of companies will give you.
Now, if only I had a way to tell them about my love for Mordin…
