According to a recent announcement by developer BioWare, all story related DLC for Anthem will be free for everyone.
The information was initially revealed by BioWare during a PAX West panel, later reported by GameRant. The panel revealed new details about the game's story, as well as a new trailer.
BioWare didn't say what their future DLC will be, leaving us to speculate as to the fullness of their plans. Clarifying that story DLC is free implies that there will also be non-story related content to purchase and download. This could range from new game modes to cosmetic options.
The idea of free DLC is unexpected from a team under the Electronic Arts branch of studios. The infamous publisher has a history of putting a price tag on everything they could get away with. Their influence led to the downfall of Star Wars Battlefront II.
Anthem has been under a close eye as the future of BioWare as an EA product. With the underwhelming release of Mass Effect: Andromeda, many are concerned that their partnership with the publisher is leading to a loss of quality, and their eventual shutdown. Though it's clear that EA is investing plenty of resources into Anthem. It's too soon to guess how Anthem will turn out, but time will tell.
Anthem releases February 22, 2018, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
