The biggest game in the world just got a little bigger, or should I say BEEgger? Honeybees are the next animal coming to Minecraft!
Announced in an official blog post and pushed to the latest snapshot, the big fuzzy bugs are the latest addition to the popular open-world sandbox game. And they do more than just roam around, they imitate many of the behaviors of their real-life counterparts.
Minecraft bees live in both nests and naturally forming hives, seeking out groups of flowers to pollinate and feed their home. Over time, the bees will produce honey and honeycombs that the player can harvest (using an empty bottle or shears accordingly). They'll even tell other bees about their favorite flower locations and will bring them along next time.
Bees stay in their nest during the night and while it's raining. And if you want to calm them, the smoke from a campfire will do the trick.
Dispensers have new functionality as well. When placed correctly, a dispenser will either harvest honeycombs or fill bottles with honey automatically.
Alongside the bees, this snapshot update also includes some technical updates and bug fixes.
All of this new content is currently available for Minecraft: Java Edition on PC as Snapshot 19W34A. This is Minecraft's opt-in beta program that introduces new features for bug testing before pushing to the main game. For more information about the snapshot, including how to participate, can be found on the Minecraft website.
