Big Changes Coming to Overwatch Season 2

Blizzard recently showed a video highlighting the many changes coming to Overwatch's competitive mode. The majority of these answer the main complaints players have had about the mode. Since its release, fans have had issues with the matchmaking, the effectiveness of sudden death, and more. The video below gives a rundown of the biggest changes to come.

Exciting changes are afoot.

The most notable change is the entire removal of sudden death. That means no completely one-sided competition. That means no coin flip. Instead, the matches will be more optimized to lead to a clear winner. And for the very rare times there isn't one, the game will simply result in a tie. As far as the matchmaking goes, Blizzard is changing the skill ratings from a scale of 100 to a scale of 5,000. This should help clear up skill progression, tighten up matchmaking, and remove the grade school mentality. Jeff Kaplan gives a great explanation in the video on how a competitive player with a rank of 60 might feel inadequate, but only the top 6% of players are there or higher. The different rating scheme should help players get a better idea of their skill level, especially since there will also be 7 tiers players can achieve. These are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Grand Master. This way, we will have more than just a number to define our place in the Overwatch community.

The first season will come to a close next month, so these changes will take effect really soon.
