I'm certainly reassured.

When it was first announced that Fallout 76 would be an online multiplayer game, many fans' concerns were that the chaotic nature of the internet would ruin the experience. In an interview with Twitch, Bethesda vice president and public relations manager Pete Hines expanded on how the feature won't be full of trolls and griefers.

Hines spoke primarily about how the game will handle player interactions, including PvP, economics, and harassment. Though he starts off by explaining what director Todd Howard meant when he said players can still play Fallout 76 "solo." He explained that while you can play alone, the other human players will still be present in the game world. The solo aspect is saying that players can still enjoy the game fully without the cooperation of others.

He uses the moment to segue into how PvP will work.

"People can't grief you," Hines explained. "They can't keep coming after you, killing you over and over every time you respawn. The game literally doesn't let you do that."

He continues to expand on the idea, saying that if a player wants to be a violent, aggressive raider, they can approach others and offer to fight, but the other player has to agree on it. Even if you were to die in combat, you aren't punished for it.

"You don't lose your progression, you don't get looted, you don't lose any of that stuff. we don't want it to be hardcore in terms of you lose progression when you die."

Hines also talked about how the game's economics will work. Players will be able to act as traders, making deals for new gear. Alternatively, they can be craftsmen, finding and creating items to trade. You could start your own minutemen, establishing a team and offering to help others for the right price.

You can have more than one character, as well. Bethesda recognized that players will want good characters, evil characters. They made sure that players still have the freedom to swap between characters in Fallout 76.
