Bethesda finally announced a new Elder Scrolls game, but it wasn't what people were expecting. The publisher/game studio are developing a first-person RPG for mobile devices called Elder Scrolls: Blades.
Enthusiastically referred to as "console graphics on a mobile device," Blades aims to be a full Elder Scrolls experience. You play as a member of the Blades, an agency dedicated to protecting the emperor. One day, you find your home destroyed, and yourself exiled. You start the game in a dungeon, fighting for your life in both planned and procedurally generated.
Director Todd Howard expressed a focus on making this game easy to play in whatever way you want. You can navigate the world via tapping or virtual dual sticks, attacking with a variety of weapons and combat styles. You can even play the game in its entirety in portrait mode, should you desire it.
When not leveling up and slaying rats, the player can also upgrade their town. This new town-building mode allows you to mold and create a home environment to suit your needs, while also offering a newfound level of "personal feel" to your games.
Blades will first come to iOS and Android devices, though Bethesda intends to eventually bring the game to all systems, including PC and consoles. Your save game data will be synchronized across devices as well.
Best of all, it'll be free. To sign up for the beta, or pre-order the Android and iOS version, visit playblades.com.
