Rage 2 definitely dives deep into the retro '90s aesthetic. We can see this in the NBA Jam announcer "cheat code" they announced last month. Now publisher Bethesda is is maintaining that momentum by giving away a custom Sega Dreamcast capable of running Rage 2.
Hosted by the Rage 2 Twitter account, anyone that follows the accounts and retweets the related post will be entered to win. The prize is a black Dreamcast with the Rage logo printed on top in pink. The winner will be announced on May 6.
You probably had the same thought as myself, as well as everyone else: How can a console from the '90s play Rage 2? According to the official rules PDF, the actual product is a custom built PC valued at $590, placed inside of a Dreamcast shell.
The specifications of the hardware remain unknown, though if it's priced around $600, then it'll be plenty strong enough to run Rage 2, that's for sure. This does mean, unfortunately, that you will probably need some technical savvy to get the Dreamcast controllers to work with the game.
Giving away a PC as a promotion is nothing new. But we can admire the cute way that Bethesda is going about it. But with over 25,000 retweets at this point, your odds are pretty slim.
Rage 2 was developed by id Software and Avalanche Studios and published by Bethesda. It will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 14.
