We have some exciting non-news for you today. Or, rather, news that’s interesting and telling, but only so far as you’re optimistic.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything exciting out of Bethesda. The last game it directly developed was Skyrim, back in 2011—everything else since then with the Bethesda Softworks title on it was merely published by the company. Granted, some of those games were pretty fantastic, like Wolfenstine: The New Order, and Doom… and some of them were kinda lame, like Elder Scrolls Online and The Evil Within, but that’s not the point.
While Bethesda hasn’t officially made any announcements (or even any teasers) as to when it might make the next proper Elder Scrolls or the next Fallout (it’s been five years since the last fallout game!), we have reason to believe one is on its way: because Bethesda has officially secured a spot as a presenter at E3 this year. It’s going to have a press conference all of t’s own alongside Sony, Microsoft, EA and everyone else who works the rounds at these press shows.
This is exciting for two reasons: for one, they must have a doozy of an announcement to get their own E3 spot—it’s extremely unlikely they’d make a presentation just to show off how well Elder Scrolls Online is doing and raise hype for Doom 4. And for two, Bethesda, despite it’s long and storied history within the Industry, has never presented a press conference at E3 before. As far as I can tell there’s no reason they haven’t, they were never morally opposed or practically unable, but whatever made them finally change their mind has to be big.
People are already whispering about a new Fallout game or an Elder Scrolls VI. Fallout seems more likely to me, but heck, they could announce both at the same time, the two series tend to come out with new games around the same time as each other.
Either way, it’s something to be excited about for this upcoming June.
