In news that’s as heartwarming as it is disappointing, Bethesda has announced that it’s going to donate a whoppin’ one million dollars to COVID-19 relief efforts.

From a recently posted update on their website:

With the impact of this health crisis being so great and widespread, we want to help by donating to an array of international and local charities which are directly involved with COVID-19 relief efforts. We plan to donate $1,000,000 to the following front-line organizations:
• $500,000 will be given to Direct Relief, a charity which is directly involved in COVID-19 relief efforts, including the critically important work of providing personal protective equipment to health care workers.
• $250,000 will go to UNICEF, which partners with front-line responders around the world to keep children and their families safe and protected.
• $250,000 will be donated to local COVID-19 relief efforts within the communities where we work and live. These recipients will be chosen by our individual studios and international offices. This way we can support worthy charities fighting COVID-19 in our local communities across the world.

Like anyone else, I of course offer sincere thanks and gratitude to Bethesda for the much-needed money and the generosity. No one is going to say it’s a bad thing. That said, considering the fact that ZeniMax, the owners of Bethesda, is roughly estimated to be worth 2.5 billion dollars, it kind of feels like they could be doing more.

Again, no one’s complaining, but we’ve got a global pandemic that’s killing thousands of people every week. It feels like if there was ever a time to loosen up the purse strings a little bit, it’d be now.

In any case, this is the latest of large if slightly disappointing donations from triple-A studios and developers. Fans, at the very least, have had no problem being a little more generous.
