Last we heard from Amiibo, it was Nintendo giving us news that there would be no special unlockables in the next Star Fox game for owners of the existing Falco and/or Fox Amiibo released with Super Smash Brothers. And if you think about it, the fact that it’s GOOD news that Amiibo owners won’t be getting much speaks to the heart of the whole Amiibo problem, doesn’t it? I mean, it should be that Nintendo can do whatever it wants with the Amiibo because anyone who wants one, has one… but thanks to this whole ‘forced scarcity’ bull they’re pulling, Amiibo ownership is reserved for the lucky or fast few who manage to stumble across a sale online and purchase it before the servers freeze.

Well, Best Buy is about to begin sales on a store exclusive Amiibo, Dark Pit, and already people are dreading the inevitable flood of customers that will follow; to help reduce the drama, the pain, and the bullshit of buying Amiibos, Best Buy has just revamped its policy for selling Nintendo’s Digital Toy with four very simple new rules:
  • No online pre-orders
  • Local pick-up only
  • One per customer
  • Sold on a first-come, first-served basis
...That’s it. By simplifying the process and limiting the number of people who can buy the damn things go one per person, it should dramatically reduce the… well, drama that comes with each new Amiibo release. Of course, it’s not as good as Nintendo actually fixing the problem and creating a supply to equal demand, but hey: if it were my job to think up ideas for Nintendo, I’d be getting paid a lot more than I am now.

Either way, the Dark Pit goes on sale at the end of the month, on the 31st. Better get in line now.
