Bear Simulator Dev Quits due to "Drama"

At least it's not a drama bomb.

There are a lot of ‘simulators’ on the market these days: Goat Simulators, Bread Simulators, Cat Simulators… seems ‘simulators’, where you play a random creature or object that’s no way reflective of the true experience of being that creature or object, is all the rage these days. So when a fresh-faced developer goes to Kickstarter looking to fund a Bear Simulator--which combines the humor of Goat Simulator with the pure awesomeness of just BEING a bear--it’s unsurprising that he would exceed his $30,000 USD goal and hit somewhere around the ballpark of $100,000 to get things done.

Well, the game’s finally out--of sorts--and reception couldn’t be milder. It’s got a suite of bugs and problems, as you do, there are complaints and irritations, and apparently a lot of it has gone to the developer’s head: enough so that he’s dropping out of the PC development game entirely.

What exactly went wrong? "Drama."

“Well the game didn't have a great reception, has a stigma against it's name and there's plenty of other problems so making any updates or going further is basically a lost cause now. Plus not skilled enough to make the game better than it currently is or write better updates than previously. Also don't want to deal with the drama anymore. Can't ignore it because that causes more drama and can't do anything about it because that causes more drama.”

At least he was classier than Phil Fish.

I can’t say I like this: quitting because of ‘drama’ is a hell of a reason to go, especially after pocketing $100k to do the job. Still, his Kickstarter post seems just immature enough that I’m willing to believe it’s a case of a kid just getting in over his head and being unable to ‘cope’, rather than an adult using drama as an excuse to run off with an extra couple grand.

Regardless, unless someone talks him out of it, the game will cease development soon. In his own words:

“Will make another game update with Kickstarter Island included and some other fixes, leave a comment below of what you really want fixed. Will work on fixes and features until you're all happy and content then stop.”

So at least he’s not dropping the project right away--which means if you really want to ride a dinosaur down a waterfall, it’s not too late to ask for the feature.
