Battlerite, the popular MOBA, will be branching off, releasing their own, standalone battle royale game. It'll be coming to early access next month, according to developers Stunlock Studios.

Battlerite Royale was initially set to be an alternate game mode due to launch this summer. But due to overwhelming interest by fans and some limitations by the original game mode, the battle royale mode will be breaking off from the main title. Stunlock Studios explained this in a recent blog post:

"As we continued to develop Battlerite Royale we saw more and more potential in it with every passing day, but we also noticed the difficulties with keeping Royale in the same frame as [Battlerite].
. . .
When the decision was made, we suddenly could do more to make the best possible royale experience. We redesigned champion ability kits, rebalanced stats, added new gameplay systems, and removed systems. We also had to develop new matchmaking and rating systems, create a new interface, and a separate onboarding experience."

Every single playable character, known as champions, are being fully redesigned to accommodate the new game mode better, though the core input and combat remains the same. All players are more lethal, for example, to increase the pace of games.

"We had to balance out defensive mechanics, in particular healing, shields, and crowd control. Tackling support champions has been quite challenging, as their role is to prolong and defend themselves and their allies."

Cosmetics earned in the main game will transfer over to the battle royale game when it launches. Those interested in participating in a closed beta can sign up now. Otherwise, you can check out their full development roadmap.
