Battlefield V Returns to World War II

It was their plan all along.

With the introduction of March, we take another step closer toward the holiday season. That's when big-name publishers pull out their heavy hitting titles to maximize sales. One game to look forward to this year is the next Battlefield game, Battlefield V. Which will be taking place in World War II.

The last time we saw a Battlefield game tackle WWII was in 2009 with Battlefield 1943. The most recent game in the series took a step farther back, pitting the players into the hardships of World War I.

Battlefield 1 proved a huge success, ranking as the No. 2 best-selling game in the United States for 2016, according to the industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. When Call of Duty announced that their next game will be returning to WWII, many saw this as a reaction to Battlefield's success.

There has also been a rumor that developers DICE are working on Battlefield: Bad Company 3, basing the game around the Vietnam War. This is unfortunately inaccurate. EA has them in full force on Battlefield V. While the possibility of another Bad Company game isn't out of the question, it is not EA's primary focus right now.

While I like the idea of more WWII era games, I fear for what EA will do to this one. They've not messed with past Battlefield games that much, but their recent handling of games like Battlefront II has me concerned. I'd hate to see another game be transformed into another manipulative microtransaction generator.
