Battlefield 1 Devs Detail the Future of their Game

It's smoky. And full of bullets.

While most of the attention is now on CoD, the critically praised but universally despised latest game which has just been released, that doesn't mean we can forget about the other darling of the FPS genre, Battlefield 1, which had both critical and community praise. It's been out for a little while now, with people churning out bullets and blood in the frantic multiplayer, and experiencing the stories of the fighters of the Great War in the single-player mode. Pretty cool I guess.

But things get old fast in today's fast-paced world, and Battlefield 1 cannot rest on its laurels. That's why EA recently published a blog post detailing all the ways Battlefield 1 is going to improve over the next few weeks and months, up until the end of the year.

The blog post promises several things: first, the launch of Hardcore servers, or servers for more serious-minded players where soldiers suffer certain limitations and have significantly less health, which will apparently be happening very soon in the future. Likewise, the ability to rent a server will be coming in the coming weeks, so those Battlefield 1 parties you want to host will a reality before too long. They also announce that soon they'll be unveiling custom game modes, the first being "Fog of War" - a claustrophobic team battle where team flags are turned off and the map is covered in a thick fog.

Perhaps the most exciting change, however, will happen sometime this December, where a "free" update, "Giant's Shadow," will be released to the public. Here's everything we know so far:

"Prepare to take part in the Battle of the Selle in the cold autumn of 1918. Here, the fighting moves out of the trenches and into open country where a massive crashed airship casts its shadow onto the battlefield. The British forces have broken through the Hindenburg line and are now in pursuit towards an important railway center. Fierce infantry and tank engagements ensue on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateu-Wassigny railway where an armored train can still turn the tide."

Fingers crossed. I'm sure we won't have to wait too long to find out more. Now, we just have to wonder how many more "free" updates we'll get before EA rolls out the microtransactions.

Because those are bound to happen. Eventually.

Don't kid yourselves.
