DICE has decided to do without female playable characters in multiplayer thus far behind the idea of realism, especially in a world war one situation. According to an ex-staff member of Dice, Amandine Coget, including female soldiers was part of Battlefield 1's original game design, but it never came to fruition for many reasons.
DICE has finally decided to include a playable female soldier in multiplayer as part of the Russian Woman's Battalion Of Death. This was a real Russian squad that was formed in 1917 and was part of several other Russian squads that were involved in the war. Battlefield 1's first female soldier will be available to play along with the release of the upcoming expansion, In The Name of the Tsar.
