Bastion's Overwatch Story has Launched

It's the best one so far.

No Overwatch character has gotten more wrath than Bastion. The self-repairing, movable turret that deals roughly 200 damage per second has had many players crying foul since the beta. However, other than balance-necessary tweaks, Blizzard hasn't done much to alleviate how salty some gamers are. Instead, they worked on a wonderfully made origin story for the voiceless Omnic. And I've got to say, it's a job well done.

I'm not crying. I'm not crying.

It's heartbreaking, heartwarming, heart-shattering, and heart-uhh-redeeming, in that order. Bastion awakes from some kind of shutdown long after the fight that killed off his robotic brethren. The Omnic struggles to find purpose in this new world and allows itself to get lost in nature. When a woodpecker's strike takes the tone of gunfire, Bastion instinctively mows down an acre of forest before finding his way to a long-finished battlefield. Seeing fallen comrades reminds Bastion of his purpose to fight against humanity. But his familiar bird friend offers a chance to make a new purpose. And Bastion, with tears in my eyes, accepts the more noble and loving path.

Blizzard has done a beautiful job with all of the origin videos they've made so far for Overwatch. They have added a sense of much needed flavor to the characters and lore behind the game. None have really been as emotionally charged as Bastion's, though. Though, I doubt that will do much to quell the rage of fans crying, "OVERPOWERED!"
