Finally, the official statement about Tekken 7's release for consoles... at least in North America. Bandai Namco Entertainment America has announced that the King of Fighters Tournament will be held at home consoles with shiny graphics, new storyline elements, and of course, the same Tekken action we've come to know and love.

To coincide Tekken's 20th anniversary, Tekken 7 will be returning to Tekken's gameplay roots--thank freakin' goodness--with classic 1 vs 1 battling and an original storyline focused on the well-known battles between members of the Mishima family. Remember that Kazumi Mishima will be joining this fray, meaning all sorts of crazy mess going on. Powered by Unreal 4, Tekken 7 will be featuring dynamic environments and differences beyond its arcade cousin.

What differences, you may ask? Tekken 7's console version will incorporate numerous modes, an in-depth story, and more. According to Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc:

"The Tekken series is not only a cornerstone series in Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.'s illustrious line-up of game franchises; it has also been a foundational game in the fighting game tournament community for over two decades. Tekken 7 promises to deliver an uncompromising fighting game experience that will deliver groundbreaking graphics, animation, and tournament style gameplay. Fighting game tournament players should be on notice as we're setting our sights on lighting up the tournament scene with the hardest hitting Tekken game ever."

Tekken 7 will be available sometime next year in North America, Latin America, and Brazil for consoles.

However, here's another little tidbit that may surprise you:

Tekken 7 will also be launching on PlayStation VR. Wow, I wonder how that would work--I suppose you'd be punching the air, but what about kicking?

Here's the particular Tweet from PlayStation Europe confirming the news:

"Jim with another surprise, Tekken 7 will be coming to PlayStation VR! Imagine that!"
