Bandai Namco Announces Power Rangers-Inspired Chroma Squad for Consoles

Yes, the Power Rangers is still relevant.

Fan of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? If you're not, that's okay; there won't be any pitchforks brandished. Just know that even to this day, in 2016, the franchise is still chugging along, even if not as strong compared to two decades ago. But still strong enough to warrant a full reboot film.

Anyway, Bandai Namco Entertainment America has hopped on the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger bandwagon - then again, it has always been on the bandwagon for as long as I can remember - with its announcement of the indie-developed title Chroma Squad for Western consoles in 2017. And I have to admit that it's erm... quite meta.

Maybe this trailer will clear the confusion...

No wait, no it doesn't. Holy hell, is the game drenched with the cheesiest of cheeses (nacho?). In a good way? A bad way?

I can't decide. I'm going to teeter towards good, mainly due to the meta-function.

So, to whet your curiosity, Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG (hooray!) featuring five stunt actors who have quit their jobs in favor of launching a TV show inspired by - you guessed it - the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!

As a side effect of this pursuit, you'll be casting actors, purchasing equipment and upgrades for the studio, and crafting weapons and gargantuan Mechas out of only the flimsiest of cardboard products and duct tape.

And yes, before you ask whether or not there will be any depth to the combat, there certainly will be: you'll be wrestling with skills trees, random equipment, crafting, and, of course, manipulating a giant mecha!

Still famished? Well, would a branching storyline, complete with three different endings, satiate your hunger like a Snickers Bar would?

If so, then you may either twiddle your thumbs in anticipation for the console release in 2017 or hurriedly sweep up a copy for your never ending Steam backlog at only $14.99.
