It seems like every time Atlas makes its way back to the newsfeed, it's not with something good. The poorly received pirate MMO by the makers of ARK was taken offline after hackers released WWII tanks, planes, and whales into the game world.
One or more hackers gained access to an administrative account on Thursday morning, releasing a number of out-of-period items into the world. This prompted the developers to shut the game down and force a server rollback.
Later that day, the Atlas community manager made a statement, explaining what happened to the North America PvP server this happened to. They conclude by reassuring that they've "taken the appropriate steps to ensure this does not happen again.
Despite acting as quickly as they could, they couldn't stop the wave of live stream footage and YouTube videos from releasing, showcasing the maritime mistake. A perfect example of this is a clip taken from Twitch Streamer SniperNamedG, who watched a number of military tanks roam around.
Atlas has certainly seen a fair bit of negative press since it's release. Many of the promoted features were not present at launch, and it's encountered a handful (or several handfuls) of glitches and bugs since. If you remain unswayed, you can purchase the game on Steam PC for $29.99.
